Having been a professional academic for 25 years, in 2014 I left that career to pursue my lifelong passion for photography on a full time basis.
I am always concerned to avoid the obvious in my photographs. Not always easy but, strive to imbue my images with interest. Tony Ray Jones berated himself for taking boring photographs. It’s a lesson not lost on me. Portraits must have an interesting expression, street images odd details, and travel photographs something other than conventional pretty views.
I am not attached to any brand of camera. I take an instrumental view of equipment, i.e. so long as it gets the job done, to the desired quality, I will use it.
